With the Women’s British Open taking place at Woburn this week, we thought now is the best time to look at why you should be getting more iron in your diet, especially with accuracy playing such a pivotal role for the players this week. Well done to this week’s Captains Stableford winner Tony Berry on his impressive 41 points from Andy Rowe in second place on 40 points.

The Trilby Tour

Well done to Vice Captain Greg West who represented Looe on the Trilby Tour last week at The Springs Golf Club in Oxfordshire. Heavy rain made scoring tough. as if the course wasn't tough enough. Greg finished with a respectable 25 stableford points which, in those conditions, was pretty good as he finished in the middle of the field.

Seniors' news

Wow, what a day

The Seniors Individual Open appeared to be enjoyed by most taking part. Many prizes were won on the raffle and the card draw prize could have been won by JJ Carr, Colin Hough or John Plummer but they all went home too early so Andrew Deacon took home the bottle of Grants whisky.

Nearest the pin on the 12th went to Geoff Radford-Snell from Carlyon Bay. Twos were scored by Sid Pascoe, Bob Weston and Bryan Sibley, each taking home a few balls!

In fifth place winning a brolly with 38 points was Richard Wheeler from Carlyon Bay. In fourth with 40 points on countback was Looe’s, Andy Rowe. In third also with 40 (back 9 = 23) was Stuart Grant-Allen also from Looe. Two players had 41 points Brian Clark (Looe) and Tony Kellow (Porthpean). However, Tony had 24 points on back 9 against Brian’s 18 so Tony wins the Seniors Individual Open for 2019 and a golf bag. Brian took runners up spot, along with a winter jacket. Well done to all the entrants, we look forward to seeing you all again next year.

The Guy Berncastle Trophy

Well done to Sid and Julie Pascoe on winning the Guy Berncastle with 37 points on countback from John and Shirley Nicholls. Malcolm and Jane and Keith and Angela came in with 36 points (Although this is a mixed comp off the men’s card it is run by the ladies section so well done to all who took part).

Smiling Cinderella wins at Woburn

It was a fairytale ending for lady Japanese golfer, Hinako Shibuno, who made her first competitive start outside Japan a special one by winning the AIG Women’s British Open at Woburn this weekend. Nicknamed ‘Smiling Cinderella’ for her happy approach out on the course, she made light work of the back nine of the Marquess course all week carding an 18-under par total.

American Lizette Salas missed a putt on the last to potentially force a play-off, but did secure second place on her own and all but assure her spot on the American Solheim Cup Team this September at Gleneagles.

Home hopes faded on the final day with Charley Hull, Georgia Hall and Bronte Law all shooting over-par rounds, however, they will look to bounce back at the Ladies Scottish Open this week.

Adjust to your surroundings

Driver adjustability has been a marketing buzz term for a number of years now, but how much of a difference will it really make to your game? Well, we decided to find out.

We could bamboozle you with tech speak when it comes to adjustability but there are two key ways in which today's drivers can be adjusted to suit your swing, making a custom fitting more important than ever before.

Perimeter weighting

The first is the ability to adjust weights on the sole of the head to favour either a draw, fade or neutral shot shape.

Hosel adjustability

The second is the ability to adjust loft and lie angles in the hosel.
