News from the Course - June/July
Now that we've had some rain at last, things will start to grow properly after a slow, dry Spring. The areas that were eaten by the Leatherjackets (Crane Fly Larvae) are starting to recover now, so as long as we don't have an extremely dry summer again, the course will continue to get stronger going into the winter months.
There are areas on certain fairways where we have seen rocks and stones pushing up through the turf due to last year's drought period. The removal of these will be a lengthy process as many of them are to be lifted out by hand. We will be starting on the 2nd and 7th fairways to begin with as these are the worst areas.
Until these areas are cleared, we will be marking clearly any areas with spray paint placing them as areas of Ground Under Repair (G.U.R).
We have a busy period towards the end of June with the WBM Mixed Open on Sunday, 23, and the Cornish Seniors Team Open the following day. Due to the volume of players, the Course will be closed for both days. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. (Please disregard any emails stating that the Course may be open on the day of the Opens).
The top green on the 1st Hole will be in play for the week prior to both of the Open Competitions. This is to tend to the already worn bottom green, in preparation for the extra footfall. The area next to the putting green will be worked upon soon to upgrade the practice facilities, to include a clearer area for chipping, however, we are waiting for a firm to dig out a new drainage system at the rear of the Clubhouse before we can commence. Now that our greens are in such good condition, it is increasingly important that everyone remembers to repair their pitchmarks and any others that they may find. |
