Captain's Stableford
Well done to this week's winner Steve West on winning the Captain's Stableford on countback from Pete Bartlett with 43 points. A special mention goes to 3rd placed Kieran Faulkner who finished with 42 points. A gross 65 was clearly not good enough!
Seniors Welsh Open
Well done to Andy Rowe who represented Looe Golf Club at the Welsh Seniors Open which was played at Llandudno Golf Club. Andy made the cut after 2 rounds and finished the 54 hole tournament with gross scores of 77, 75, 75 - Total 227 (Par 72) leaving him tied 14th for the tournament. Lombard Trophy Regional Final At Burnham & Berrow
Lombard Trophy On the 22nd June Trevor Frasle and I represented the club at Burnham & Berrow Golf Club in the Regional Finals of the Lombard Pro Am Trophy. After days of hot and sunny weather we had prepared ourselves well with plenty of drinks and sun-tan lotion. Unfortunately this did not continue as we were greeted with a brisk 'not so warm' wind blowing in off of the Bristol Channel.
We started well with a couple of nice drives down the first and a very steady 5 nett 4 start for Trevor. Trevor then continued to be unfazed and carried on his steady start with nett birdies at 2 & 4. At this point our opposition from Whitsand Bay were left wondering what was going on as they struggled in the tricky conditions. By the 7th Trevor's shoulders must have started to hurt as my erratic driving was not helping the cause and a moment of madness at the 8th cost us another shot.
As we stood on the 10th tee, 3 over par, I felt that it was time I ought to get off of Trevor's back and make an appearance on the card. Birdies at 10, 13, 16 & 18 brought back some respectability as we finished level par tied 16th out of 54 pairs. Trevor was the star man on the day and showed us that hitting a straight ball really is the way forward. A very enjoyable day!
