Congratulations...

The irrepressible Andy Rowe, pictured, is the 2016 Seniors' County Champion after he won a three man sudden death play-off at Newquay GC yesterday evening at the end of a day which saw 121 competitors take to the links overlooking Fistral beach.

Club Championship

Looe Golf Club Club Championship took place on Sunday for the Scratch and Coronation Cups. The morning round (for the Coronation Cup) saw the in-form Kieron Faulkner shoot a gross score of 68, nett 65, to win by one shot from Andy Allen who returned with a gross score of 72, nett 66.

The Scratch Cup (played over 36 holes) saw Kieron lead by three shots in the morning round from Andy Rowe who had shot a gross score of 71. The afternoon round saw Andy make fewer mistakes than Kieron as he shot a gross 70 to Kieron's gross 73. This mean't that Andy won by virtue of countback on the last 18 holes. Well done to all!

Olver Cup

Well done to Stephen Allman on winning the final of the Olver Cup, one up against Mike Morris.

A date for your diary 

With the Olympic golf behind us, our attention now turns to the Ryder Cup. Before that first tee shot on September 30, however, come the wild card selections on August 30. This is when Darren Clarke will name his three players who will join those who have already qualified (see below). 

So, how is Team Europe shaping up? The following names are guaranteed their spot on the plane to Minnesota: 

Rory McIlroy, Danny Willett, Henrik Stenson, Chris Wood, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, Rafael Cabrera-Bello, Andy Sullivan and Matt Fitzpatrick. 

Yes, some big names are set to miss out! However, the favourites for the wild card spots are Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer and Russell Knox. You have to say, it's a strong side given the likes of Graeme McDowell, Luke Donald and Shane Lowry are looking like missing out… maybe. 

As the saying goes, 'One man's loss is another man's gain'. Fitzpatrick qualified at the weekend and his reaction was superb - well done that man.
