Competition news

Congratulations...

Well done to John Spurgeon and Sue Crook on winning the WBM Groundworks Mixed Open on Sunday with 39 points. Also well done to Phil Green on winning Saturday's Dawn Plate with 38 points and to Steve West on winning Monday's Captain's Stableford with 45 points.

Lombard Trophy

Last Thursday, Sid Pascoe and I, represented the club at Bovey Castle in the Lombard Trophy Regional Qualifier. After a steady start we managed to dove tail well until we got to the fifth. After thinking that pars won't win you anything, we both pulled out the driver on what was a tricky tee shot. We managed to get both or our drives away and in play so the hard work was done, or so we thought.... A stream in front of the green and a very dodgey yardage (given by our sat navs) meant that there was only one place our balls would end up and from then on it wasn't to be our day. We were however there to encourage our very lucky playing partners who tried to self-destruct down the last. After hitting a couple of stray shots they were fortunate to have a PGA Rules Official on hand to get them over the line. All in all it was a very enjoyable day and we'll get them next time!

Fitting day

Cobra Fitting Day

We are fortunate enough to have been allocated a second Cobra Fitting Day, which is due to take place on Wednesday, 23 July from 10am - 3pm. So if you would like to try your current clubs against the latest technology from Cobra, this could be the ideal opportunity.

Tip of the week

How do you hit a draw?

We get asked this a lot, probably because so many golfers struggle with a distance-robbing slice. A soft draw is a great shot to have at your disposal as it gives you a bit more distance. However, there’s a big difference between a soft draw and a hook – so here are a few tips for you.

Try altering your set-up by aiming your feet and body right of your target line, whilst keeping your clubface aimed at the target. We want you to swing as normal; closing your body towards the target and taking your normal swing will mean your path is altered more naturally. Do this correctly and you should swing along your body line and right of target, which creates the desired draw shape.

Don’t forget to come and see us if you want any help with your swing, or if you’re looking to add a new shot to your armoury. Click here to request a lesson.

Video of the week

Just to prove that the unmentionables can strike anyone… this happened to poor Jon Rahm, playing in his first ever event as a professional. As if that wasn't bad enough, Shot Tracker technology captured it all!

It can happen to any of us…
